School Consulting

Schools bring us in to provide single day workshops, to facilitate goal oriented development over months or years, or for periodic planning meetings with teaching teams. We also love team-teaching, and providing observational feedback. If you’d like to explore a customized experience for you and your colleagues, we’d love to hear from you.

Recent School Consulting Projects

Sharon Elementary – Vermont, 2017-2020

We worked with Sharon Elementary professional staff on a monthly basis for two and a half years. During the first year we built shared understanding and expectations for a program of preK-sixth grade Forest Days. During the second year all classrooms committed to frequent, immersive outdoor play and learning. We did some team-teaching and produced audio and video documentation of their reflections of their pilot year. In the third year we collaborated with staff to create a scope and sequence document tracing the goals and outcomes of their “Beyond the Classroom” work.

Marion Cross School – Vermont / Deerfield Community School – New Hampshire, 2020

In response to COVID19 we provided day long workshops on teaching outdoors. Our workshops can be tailored but often, as in the case with these two, we focus on outdoor routines that balance safety, developmental needs and academic goals. We always include many songs, sample lessons and ideas that can be immediately applied with elementary students.

Westshire Elementary School – Vermont, 2020-2021

We work with the school’s entire staff exclusively outside one afternoon per month. We model greetings, songs, active games and standards based lessons, and make space for school staff to share successes and solve shared problems. The Westshire School is invested in outdoor learning beyond the challenges of COVID19 and intends to focus on the development of infrastructure, culture, routines, and curriculum that embed learning in authentic, immersive outdoor experiences.

Wayland Public Schools – Massachusetts, 2020-2021

A Spanish immersion first grade teacher has brought us to her district with grant funding to help eager K-5 teachers develop their use of outdoor spaces for learning. Since we cannot travel to Massachusetts during the pandemic we have been meeting frequently with teaching teams by Zoom, providing a mix of lesson ideas and spontaneous advice and brainstorming as Wayland’s kindergarten and first grade teachers focus on developing their use of the outdoors.
